Self-reflection - The exercises my Mentor gave me required deep self-reflection. I analysed my drivers, needs, motivations, doubts, and interests through various methods, such as thinking, writing, meditating, sharing, and even embodying. It was challenging at times because searching for answers within oneself can bring the whole spectrum of emotions. I did not expect to go on such a deep journey when I started this programme, but I am really glad I did. I have learned how to listen to myself and incorporate what I've learned into my everyday world, my relationships with others, and my career development. I have accomplished a much greater understanding of what I need, want and expect on my next career path.

Interpersonal Skills (communication, empathy, active listening, responsibility) - Communicating with my Mentor was the key to making this programme successful. Once I was in touch with Marion for the first time, it was up to me to communicate my needs and expectations for the course of our meetings. I also had to be adaptable and listen to her needs and expectations. It was my responsibility to communicate any ideas, doubts or changes to our meetings in a timely manner. The possibility to practice these interpersonal skills so closely came at the perfect time, after having been cut off from many interactions during the pandemic.

Networking - I took my Mentor's advice about the importance of networking, and I attended the BPS All Ireland Psychology Careers Event online. My aim was to listen to the career talks and connect with people whose careers resonated with me. I got to chat with the Board Members of the PSI Student Affairs Group (SAG) about opportunities for kickstarting a career in psychology and psychological research. After the talk, I connected with the chair of PSI SAG on LinkedIn. We exchanged a few messages, and she welcomed me to reach out if I had any questions in the future. It was a successfully established new connection that is now a rich source of knowledge for my career development.
